England goalkeeper Ray Clemence has played his last game for Liverpool. That seems certain to be the outcome of his talks today with manager Bob Paisley.
It appears that Clemence, 32, has not changed his view that it would be better to leave Liverpool “now rather than later” and Southampton are favourites to sign him if he insists on moving.
Paisley could make Clemence honour his two-year contract and fight for a first-team place with £250,000 signing Bruce Grobbelaar, but he is not the kind of manager to accept less than 100 per cent commitment.
Clemence said last night: “I have made my decision and this must be sorted out this week, but I won’t say any more at this stage.”
