New Brighton Tower F.C. disbanded

August 31, 1901
Considerable sensation was caused in Liverpool football circles on Saturday by the unexpected decision of the directors of New Brighton Tower, one of the leading Second Division clubs, to disband the organisation.

The club was admittedly founded with the idea of obtaining a First Division team as a winter attraction for the noted Cheshire amusement resort, and their three failures in this respect, together with the heavy financial loss that must have been sustained, have evidently discouraged the management.

Several of last season’s players have been transferred to other League clubs, or have gone South, but such well-known men as Frank Barrett, Ben Hulse, Jack Farrell, John Holmes, Robert Petrie, and Josh Hargreaves are still disengaged.

Not only had the Tower’s League fixtures been arranged but the club had been excused participating in the early stages of the English Cup Competition.
