Everton and Tottenham returning from Argentina

August 7, 1909
We publish on this page two portrait-groups of he Everton and Tottenham Hotspur Association Football teams on board the R.M.S. Asturias, on their return from Argentina, where they recently made a tour. Their exhibition matches were very successful, and the teams were most cordially entertained by Argentina Football Association.

The people of Argentina are not quite up to the finer points of the game, and the off-side rule is still a mystery to them. In one match a foul was given for some infringement of a rule, and Doug MacFarlane, one of the ‘Spurs team, went to place the ball for the free kick. The referee promptly ordered him off the field, and he is still wondering why. The spectators are kept well in order by soldiers, who use the flat of the sword upon anyone who is pushing or obstreperous.
