The death of Jock Smith

Late Monday night, a tragic affair was reported to the police as having occurred in the backyard of the house 35, Shipley Street, Byker.

On proceeding to the house, the body of a man was found with the head nearly severed from the trunk, and a razor lying near.

The deceased’s name was stated to be Jock Smith, who was formerly connected with Newcastle United Football Club.

He was a fitter to trade. The deceased was 45 years of age, and leaves a widow and family.

Note: Jock Smith played for Liverpool in the 1892-93 season.
