It is rumoured that that the Liverpool F.C. directors – who as a body stand out in much finer relief than others I could mention – have treated their beneficiary players handsomely. According to one report Longworth “touched but” for £600, Mackinlay and Wadsworth £500 each, and Metcalf £350, and a free transfer and so on.
