Tom Morrison charged for leaving wife and child

December 7, 1936
Thomas Kelly Morrison (Tom Morrison), the Scottish international footballer who played right back for Sunderland last season, was charged before Sunderland magistrates yesterday with having left his wife and child chargeable to the Public Assistance Committee (P.A.C.).

Morrison, whose address was given as Sidecliffe Road, Sunderland, was arrested at Cambridge on Saturday. It was revealed he had left Sunderland at the close of the football season in May, leaving £49 owing to him by the Sunderland Football Club.
After hearing a promise by Mr. Lionel Wolfe, solicitor, that the money paid in relief to Mrs. Morrison would be repaid to the authorities, together with costs, the Bench agreed to the charge being withdrawn.
