David Thompson is ready to quit Liverpool to save his Premiership career. The England Under-21 midfielder has been given permission to talk to Coventry who have tabled a £2,5m bid.
Thompson, who has been at Anfield school days, admitted: “I would like to stay and fight for my place but if I’m not going to play first-team football here I may have to go elsewhere and consider other offers.”
Thompson has been pushed down the pecking order by the £6m arrival of Nicky Barmby, while Czech international Vladimir Smicer is also ahead of him in the battle for the right midfield slot.
He has also been linked with Manchester City, Sunderland and Bradford.
