Season preview 1927-28: Southport F.C. (Athletic News)

Southport prospects are brighter than ever. The infusion of new talent is greater than ever before, and both attack and defence will include players new to Southport. They are Worrall, right back, from New Brighton; Devine, left back, Charlton Athletic; Martin, centre half, Blackpool; Saxton, right or left half-back, Nottingham Forest; Scott, right half, Manchester North End; James, inside left, Middlesbrough; Laws, outside left, Nottingham Forest; and Hamilton, outside or inside right, Bradford City.

Of last season’s players George Bellis, half-back has been transferred to Wrexham, but so far as is known the following are unsigned by other clubs: – Jack Allen, Ted Glover, Jimmy Garner, Jimmy Bimson, Jack Ball, Bolton, Alf Smith, George Sapsford, Jimmy Little, Peacock, Albert Bradley, and Chris Collier.
