Wednesday, December 25 – 1940
Norwich City broke all scoring records in the English League yesterday with a remarkable victory over Brighton and Hove Albion, at Norwich, by 18 goals to nil. Norwich, who were ten up at half-time jump from sixteenth to sixth place in the League table.

Fred Chadwick, former Ipswich forward, did the hat-trick in each half. Marshall, Roberts and Sid Plunkett each found the net three times. Howe scored twice, and Jimmy Ithell, the Brighton centre-half, put through his own goal.

Norwich have scored thirty-one goals to one in their last three games. Previous best League score was thirteen each by Tranmere in 1935 and by Stockport in the season before. In a Football Association Cup game in 1887 Preston North End beat Hyde 26-0. Arbroath beat Bon Accord 36-0 in the Scottish Cup in 1885.
