Everton outsmarted by Liverpool

November 5, 1892
The Everton officials are at their wits’ end, but they are “cabined, cribbed, confined” by the £10 bonus, and wistfully look on and see men of great parts walked off by second-class clubs, a solid £100 and smaller salary being more seductive than a paltry ten pounds note with the guarantee of a high weekly wage.

Thus it came about that Liverpool in the most undemonstrative way landed the two McQueens, of Leith Athletic, who arrived last Friday week, and actually played in an English Cup tie on the following day, whilst Everton can only get nibbles at their bait.
