Liverpool and District League: The annual meeting of 1893

June 24, 1893
The Liverpool and District League held their annual meeting at the Tarleton Hotel, on Saturday. There are some alterations in the rules, but they are of a minor character.

All the officers were re-elected, and the following clubs succeeded to the five vacancies, viz., Stanley, Skelmersdale United, L and N.W. Recreation, Kirkdale, and Liverpool South End. The latter is a new name for our old friends the Florence Recreation. Mr. Cunningham explained that the Liverpool South End team would be composed of an older lot of lads than the Florence Recs, the latter club still being in existence and practically the South End reserves. The support given the Florence Recs has been good, and seeing they will now have a better class of matches they should draw big “gates.”

At the meeting a nice little arrangement between Kirkdale and Everton was brought to light, in which the latter club propose to have the first call on the Kirkdale players, presumably for the Combination team. This is all right, but I cannot understand Kirkdale applying for a place in this league with such an engagement hampering their action, and some strong remarks were made about it. However, should the arrangement come to anything, another club will be appointed in their place and the fixtures taken over.
