Bootle Football Club on the brink of extinction

August 7, 1893
Liverpool is threatened with the extinction of its oldest football club; Bootle; for at the meeting on Monday evening a gloomy view of the situation was taken by the shareholders. The condition of the club is precarious, and with the support accorded them by the Bootle public, it is odds against the club running another season. For a long time it has been a question of a few running the show, and one by one they have grown tired, with the result that the town has been thoroughly drained, and it is very questionable whether any one can be found to accept the responsibility for another season.
