Sheffield United v Liverpool 2-2 (League match: December 8, 1894)

December 8, 1894
Key note: “One does not quite understand how it is that Liverpool stand so low down in the League table after seeing them play. They have a thoroughly workmanlike manner which compels admiration, though occasionally some of their tactics equally weld compel sharp criticism and the intervention of the referee. On Saturday there was a great deal to be praised in their display, and it should not be difficult for them even yet to emerge from the humiliating position they occupy and go higher. McQueen did a lot of good things in goal, both backs were safe, the halves worked vigorously throughout, whilst of the front rank Ross, Drummond and Bradshaw were perhaps the pick in the order named, though all five did well.” (Sheffield Daily Telegraph: December 10, 1894)
