The first road for motor cars to be revealed

Friday, October 9 – 1896
The streets of London are soon to be further enlivened by the opening of the motor traffic, the rules for the regulation of which are now under consideration of the Local Government Board, and Mr. Harry J. Lawson, president of the Motor Car Club, has been notified that they will come into force on November 14th.  It has been hinted that the first experimental run of motor cards from London to Brighton should take place on that day, but in view of the importance of giving the officials who are preparing the new Act as well as the public generally a practical demonstration of the capabilities and characteristic of the new vehicle before the rules are finally settled, the first meet of motor cars will be held at Hotel Metropole, London, on Saturday, the 24th inst., at ten a.m., the start for Brighton being made at eleven a.m. The proceedings will, of course, be wound up with a dinner after the arrival at the Hotel Metropole, Brighton.
