The first day of motor cars in Liverpool

Saturday, November 14 – 1896
Motor Car Day in Liverpool was not marked by any demonstration. Indeed, only a few of these novel vehicles were to be seen in the streets, and those were used simply as a means for advertising. The general regulations issued by the Local Government Board for the control of the motor car have, as we previously intimated, been considered by the Corporation, and they have been returned to London, with recommendations further limiting the speed of the cars in the busy parts of the city. The outcome of this suggestion will be that another set of regulations applicable to Liverpool, will be published. This is in accordance with the Act of Parliament which came into force on Saturday, and which provides that separate regulations can be drawn up to meet the requirements of particular districts.
