Saturday, December 5 – 1896
The Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday night secured the transfer of John Lyden, inside right forward of the Chorley Club, for the sum of £100. Lyden is a Bolton youth, who a season ago played for the Bolton Wanderers. He is short, but speedy and clever, and undoubtedly the best forward of the team which on Saturday played the Blackburn Rovers to a draw and which boasts of being the only unbeaten club in England. NOTE: Lyden played one match for Liverpool in April 1895 against Bolton Wanderers in the County Palatine League.
