The illumination of our streets by electric light is being carried out in an admirable manner, and this, whilst being a great convenience to pedestrians, has also had the effect of considerably enhancing the appearance of the principal thoroughfares after dark.
Up to present some 126 pillar lamps have been placed in position, and nine suspensions lamps have been affixed in Bold Street. The latter system, which is one much in vogue on the Continent, possesses many advantages as compared with the pillar lamps, for such busy streets as Bold Street, and it is pleasing to learn that the owners of property in that thoroughfare have given every facility to the Corporation for fixing the wires to their premises, from which the lamps are suspended.
