Saturday, June 18 – 1898
Sunderland’s new enclosure, Roker Park, is almost read for the occupants, and when thoroughly completed it is said that it will stand alongside any of the League grounds in the country. The pitch is 110 yards by 71, encircled by a cinder track, and the whole is to be enclosed by an iron wrought rail a la Celtic Park. The total accommodation will be for a crowd of 34,000. The cost so to be somewhere about £3,000, and it is intended to have the ground open on 13th August if possible.
