An angry Anfield crowd

Saturday, April 7 – 1900
Saturday’s match was one of the hardest of the season. As time approached, and Liverpool had not equalised, the spectators became very irritable. They called upon their men to play up, and both the Burnley players and the referee were the objects of unseemly remarks. There was great jubilation among the crowd when Liverpool were awarded a penalty-kick. (Burnley Express, 11-04-1900)
