West Bromwich Albion v Liverpool.
A considerable amount of importance attached to this conflict, which was decided last Monday evening, at West Bromwich, before 5,000 spectators. Both teams were at full strength. The Albion kicked off, and at once the play became of a fast and exciting character, the visitors testing the home defence severely, Amos Adams cleared, and soon Bill Perkins was called upon, but he managed to save cleverly. After twenty minutes John Walker scored for Liverpool. After this the Throstles played up with great dash, and repeatedly had hard line. At half-time the score was: Liverpool, one goal; Albion, nothing.
The Albion forwards played remarkably well on resuming, but Alex Raisbeck, Billy Dunlop and Tom J. Robertson defied all attempts to score. Sam Raybould and Walker repeatedly tested Joe Reader, but the home goal-keeper managed to keep his charge secure. Fifteen minutes from time the score was still unaltered. Both sides strove desperately hard, the game ending: Liverpool, one goal; Albion, nothing.
Liverpool have now secured the championship of the League.
