  1. Peter McIntyre was my great uncle and played in the same Glenbuck Cherrypickers team as Bob and Bill Shankly

    1. Hi Ian,

Welcome to the website and thank you for leaving such a wonderful message. I will see if I can find more articles about Peter for you.

      Regards,

      Kjell

      1. Hi Kjell,
Thanks for getting back to me. My late father once told me that Peter McIntyre also played for Glasgow Rangers, I don’t know if he was winding me up because I’m a Celtic fan or if it’s true. I recently did some research and there was a Peter McIntyre who played for Rangers in the 1890s but don’t know if he’s the same person. Any information you have about Peter would be gratefully received and very much appreciated.
        Kind Regards,
        Ian

      2. Hi Ian,

He was indeed the same players. According to my sources this is the career of Peter:
        Glenbuck.
1895/96 Preston North End (no games).
        1896 Glasgow Rangers (no data).
        1897 Abercorn (no data).
        1897 Wigan County.
        1898 – 1901 Preston North End (87 league games, 5 goals).
** Transferred to Sheffield United for £200.
1901/02 Sheffield United (3 league games, 0 goals).
        1902 Hamilton Academicals.
** Transferred to Portsmouth for £80.
        1902 Portsmouth.
        1903 Hamilton Academicals.
        1908 Abercorn.

I will let you know if I can find more info.

      3. Hi Kjell,
Many thanks for the information, it is really fascinating seeing his career laid out in that way. When I was a small boy my great Aunt Annie (Peter’s sister) lived across the landing from us, and according to my father – I was too young to remember – she had a picture of Peter on her wall wearing a Rangers jersey. The reason I find this particular story so interesting is that Rangers had an anti-Roman Catholic policy that has only been relaxed recently. I don’t know if Peter practiced his faith or if Rangers knew of his religious persuasion, but I’d like to think that they did and judged him on his football skills alone. Anyway, keep up the good work Kjell.
        Kind Regards,
        Ian

    2. Hi Ian,
I am doing some research for a relative of Peter McIntyre, I don’t suppose I could private message you to ask you a few questions about him?
      Jack
