Noble Macpherson (goalkeeper), first played for his village team of Scone; a fit successor to the Saints’ former goalkeepers, Ferry Thompson and Davie Tulloch. Signed a First League form for Rangers this season, and stands reserve to Dickie.
William Buchan (right back) – a young colt, but a big ’un. Played a game or two for some of the junior clubs in the Inches, then returned to the St. Johnstone fold as a back for the Strollers XI. Following season was promoted to first team. Is captain this year.
Sergeant G. Turner (left back) – a true son of the Black Watch. Has played for the “red heckles” in Scotland, England, Ireland, India, and South Africa. A Magersfontein hero, and now attached to the B.W. staff at Perth. Was the companion back to Bob Barr, now of Third Lanark, when the Black Watch back division was reckoned the finest competing for the Army Cup.
Isaac M. Henderson (right half) – the treasurer of the club, will play right half at Forfar to-morrow. A Waverley – St. Johnstone laddie. Not over robust, but clever at the game on dry ground. On an emergency last season was elected to play full back for St. Johnstone against Queen’s Park, and made a good show.
J. Bonar Imrie (centre half) – last year’s captain, a worker from start to finish of the game. Never knows when he is beat. A good header, but inclined to be rash in his kicking.
J. Buchan (left half) – an out-an-out Perth player. Kicked with the juniors for a year or two on the Inches, then went to Fair City. Afterwards joined St. Johnstone. Had the misfortune to be hurt at Forfar two years ago. Tried forward occasionally last year. Has dropped to half-back again. A swimmer of note in Perth, and entered for the championship of the town lately, and was second.
R. Blackburn (outside right) – was up to this season an Edinburgh Myrtle player. On his removal to Perth he turned out for St. Johnstone this season. The youngest player of the team, but possessing good weight, gives promise of being a good forward.
Jno. Cameron (inside right) – a good forward, and was tried half-back. A good shot, but occasionally finds the target too low. A nice dribbler. A St. Johnstone Park laddie.
A. Moir (centre forward), the oldest player now playing for St. Johnstone. Wears his years well. Is one of those who improves with age. Was with the Edinburgh Hibs (hibernians) a year, and with Aberdeen Vics., but has returned to Perth. When in form is a good man in front of goal.
W. Mailer (inside left) – is a “handy man.” Has played in goal, back, half-back, and forward for St. Johnstone. Was hurt first match this season at Dundee against Wanderers, but is all right again. Good speed, and likes to be where goals are likely to be got.
D. Doig (outside left) – the oldest football player in harness in Perthshire. Played for the old Coupar Angus club, then for Fair City, and for St. Johnstone last five or six years. A real enthusiast for the game. Does not grudge a little personal inconvenience for a good game. Is a lively and as tricky as ever. When in the mood shoots with rare strength and accuracy. A thoroughly representative Perthshire player.
