It need hardly be stated that the fact that Liverpool has descended to the Second Division has caused much disappointment in the Mersey city. But even when the Anfielders last lapsed into the Second Division – in the season 1895-6 – they still met with a generous meed of public patronage. Competition nowadays has, however, become more keen, and rumour has suggested that the Liverpool club might not go on with the institution in Second League company. A Liverpool contemporary is able to state authoritatively, however, that the Anfielders will certainly next season be seen on their old enclosure. It has been suggested that the Anfield-road ground was wanted for building purposes, and that the present state of the affairs would furnish an excellent opportunity for carrying out that intention. It is understood, however, that the club directors have acquired a renewed lease. (Manchester Courier, 13-04-1904)
