Unique exhibition of raw cotton.
Her Royal Highness the Princess of Wales, who is at present, with the Prince, the guest of the Early of Derby at Knowsley Hall, near Liverpool, yesterday visited the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, the School of Cookery in Colquitt-street, and the Institute of Archaeology in Bedford-street. In each institution the Princess was enthusiastically welcomed by the student, and was apparently much interested in what she saw.
In connection with the formal opening to-day (November 30) of the new Liverpool Cotton Exchange, the exhibition, to be shown to the Prince and Princess of Wales, of samples of cotton grown in all parts of the world, including the those produced within the British Empire, is the most complete ever compiled, embracing as it does every variety of cotton – from South Carolina Sea Island, worth to-day 3s. 4d. per lb., down to Kapok thistle-down from Java, worth about 3d. per lb. After the royal visitors’ departure these exhibitions will be open to the public view.
