West Bromwich Albion F.C. yesterday received a wire from Mr. W.C. Jordan, their centre forward, conveying the intimation that owing to Oxford University having joined the Amateur FA, he will be ineligible at present to play for the League club. Having regard to the Albion’s prospect of promotion and to the importance of Jordan as a factor in that result, the news will spread considerable regret in the Birmingham district, though it must be tempered by an admiration for the player’s sporting preference. It is still the prime object of the ‘varsity man to gain his blue, and there could be no greater proof of the value placed on the distinction than the sacrifice which Jordan’s decision entails.
