The death of Herbert Pratt

September 6, 1909
The death occurred yesterday of Mr. Herbert Pratt, who, some seasons ago, was one of the most brilliant forwards in Ireland. A native of Oxford, of which city his father was Mayor for two years, Pratt on coming to Dublin in 1898 joined the Bohemian Club.

His sterling abilities as a forward gained for him the distinction of being chosen as member of the Irish League team that played, and defeated, the Scottish League eleven at Belfast in 1903, the winning goal, the only goal of the match, being scored by the popular Bohemian.

Being an Englishman, he was not, of course, eligible to play for Ireland in the International matches proper, but from the time he became associated with the Bohemian Club, up to a few years ago, when he left Ireland to follow his profession of electrical engineer at Liverpool, Pratt was regarded by the Irish Selection Committee as the finest forward in the country.

On going to Liverpool he joined the Old Xaverians, for which club he played regularly, and with much success, up to last season.
