6,000 men will be affected and traffic seriously dislocated.
At a mass meeting of Mersey Quay and Railway Carters’ Union held yesterday at Liverpool to discuss the question of working hours, it was almost unanimously resolved to give notice on Monday night for a strike.
About two thousand men were present, while many could not be admitted, as the hall was full.
The strike will affect fully six thousand men, and cause serious dislocation of the traffic of the port.
The men do not ask for an increase in wages, but for shorter hours and for Sunday work to be paid for.
