Mr. William Egan writes: –
May I beg that you will give publicity to the following in your interesting and widely read column. The distress arising from the shipyard lock-out, now in the eleventh week, is becoming more acute daily, and in order to alleviate the worst cases a fund, entitled “The Shipyard Lock-out Distress Fund,” has been inaugurated.
Owing to the generosity of the directors of the Liverpool Club in granting permission for collection to be made among their supporters at the Preston match, the above fund had a successful send off on Saturday last. The amount collected was £8 2s. 6d. which, considering the inclement weather and consequent poor gate, may be taken as satisfactory.
My committee desires to thank all those friends who contributed to this amount, and also to assure them that the money will be wisely and carefully distributed. In thanking the directors for the permission, and Mr Tom Watson for his ready assistance on Saturday afternoon, may we suggest that their kindness proved a “mascot,” and that the victory over North End is only the forerunner of many notable victories in the immediate future.
