Saturday, July 18 – 1914
The football followers who are anxious to see their favourites at practice will have to wait a day or two longer this year. One of the FA rules states that public practice matches for charity may take place after August 15, and this year the date falls on a Saturday.
Liverpool have asked for permission to hold a practice on the 15th, and had the officials granted the request it would, of course, have applied to all other clubs, and a large amount might have been raised for charities throughout the country. The FA decided, however, to stick to the rule, so no matches may be played before Monday, the 17th.
Two Saturdays will, therefore, be available for public displays before the season proper opens, and I should imagine that some managers are thankful there are only two!
