Summer is over – bring on football

The footballer’s holiday period is fast drawing to a close. The call to arms and the early preparation for a stiff season’s work will be welcomed by all. Liverpool and Everton have issued instructions to their players to attend their respective grounds on August 4.

Year by year we say goodbye to football in April, and thank our lucky stars that we can enjoy a rest, but, say, with what gusto we look forward to September!

Why only the other day at the barber’s shop a fellow sighed heavily “Cheer up,” said I. He said he would because it was “only now a matter of five weeks.” “Five weeks to your holiday?” I inquired him. “Don’t be silly,” he replied, “I mean it’s only five weeks to football!”
