Football and war (London)

March 1, 1915
I do not like the idea of granting facilities for football matches at the present time,” said the West London magistrate, yesterday, when he refused to grant an application for an occasional license for the Chelsea football ground on Saturday.

Counsel for Applicant. – These football matches are conducive to recruiting.
The Magistrate. – My opinion is quite the opposite. I am sorry to disagree with you. Football ought to be dropped.
