The proposed Western Football Combination has collapsed. Representatives of the Bristol City, Bristol Rovers, Southampton, and Newport clubs, met last evening at the Crown and Dove Hotel, and it was decided that the proposed combination should not be proceeded with with.
The Bristol clubs will play friendly matches as regularly as possible, but there will be no pooling of gates.
The City (Bristol City) will open their fixtures on the first Saturday in September with a match at Ashton Gate.
The football, of course, will be conducted on strictly amateur line, the Football Association having made the payment of players, or a too lavish scale of expenses, a serious offense.
