The death of John Clegg

May 26, 1916
The death is announced of John Clegg, the former Barnsley goalkeeper, and a native of Sheffield. With Bristol City he did good service for some years, and in December, 1910, was transferred to Barnsley. After being with the South Yorkshire team for a year he had the misfortune to break his leg. Afterwards he played with Clapton Orient and Bradford. Whilst with the latter he broke a blood-vessel in his neck, which, it is said, brought on consumption, the cause of his death, at the early age of 26.
