Presiding at the annual meeting of the shareholders of the Preston North End Club last evening, Alderman Ord, chairman of directors, alluded to the prevalence of coupon betting and attendant evils.
He said the thanks of football enthusiasts generally were due to the Football Association and the Everton Club for the strong step they had taken, for the evil had ruining other popular sports which had formerly flourished.
He thought when it came to squaring football matches it was a matter that football legislator, enthusiasts, and spectators should take in hand and immediately throttle.
