Mr. John S. Roscow, Bolton, one of the oldest of football legislators, died yesterday at the age of 77. He was one of the original advocates of professionalism, being the man to bring John Goodall and Jimmy Trainer to Lancashire, a League referee, and did much to raise the standard of football.
For 34 years he was a member of the Lancashire Association, and after 21 years’ service, during which he only missed three meetings, he was presented with the long service medal.
He was chairman of the Discipline Committee, vice chairman of the Referees’ Committee, and a member of the Rules Revision, Finance, and Reinstatement Committee.
