Rochdale protest against disallowed goal

Wednesday, September 18 – 1918
On Saturday, at Spotland, there was much debate over a disallowed goal. Now I learn that Rochdale are protesting against the result of the match. Just before half-time, when Liverpool were leading by 2 goals to 1,  Referee Alderson granted a free kick to Rochdale on the grounds, it is stated, of dangerous play. Hayes took the kick and scored, but the point was disallowed because a second player had not touched the ball. Rochdale contend that, according to the laws of the game, the only decision possible was a goal.
