Elisha Scott, the Liverpool goalie, was knocked out at Middlesbrough a fortnight ago by a shot from Robert Pender, and last week he was not fit to play against the Villa. His place was taken by Frank Mitchell, the Elgin man, who joined the Anfield club from Motherwell after the war. Mitchell has no peer in the art of saving penalties, and one of the amusements of the Liverpool boys when training is to test their shooting powers from the spot – with Frank in goal. Mitchell was signed from Everton in February 1921 for a fee of £1250.
