Liverpool players enjoying their camp

Monday, July 31 – 1939
Practically the whole of the 9th Battalion of the King’s Liverpool Regiment turned out last night to welcome the Liverpool F.C. footballers who joined them in camp at Gower, South Wales. The players soon got down to camp routine, and this morning rose at 6 o’clock to begin their course of physical jerks. Later they had rifle drill.

Manager George Kay is hopeful of fixing up a match for the boys – the camp has quite a good soccer pitch – and meantime the players are enjoying themselves immensely. The weather has been fine, though as one of the players put it, the “going” was almost like Wolverhampton Wanderers’ pitch.
