Charles Roberts, who captained Manchester United from 1906 to 1913, died in Manchester Royal Infirmary yesterday following an operation to his skull. Roberts, who was 56, had recently suffered from attacks of dizziness caused, it was thought, by heading the ball in his playing days. In 1904 when he was transferred from Grimsby Town to Manchester United the latter team paid the then record transfer fee of £600.
