Everton team for “Derby” game

Tuesday, November 28 – 1939
Everton may have Stan Bentham back on duty for the Merseyside “Derby” match against Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday. Bentham is recovering from an eye injury. If he cannot play, Simmons, the 16-year-old Wallasey boy, who made such a successful debut against Crewe Alexandra on Saturday, will continue at inside-right.

Saunders comes in at left back for Norman Greenhalgh, who like Joe Mercer and Tommy Lawton, will be on international duty. This will be Saunders’ debut in the first team.

Lindley deputies for Mercer, and Bell continues to lead the attack. Johnson will not be available, so Davies, who stood down last week to give Johnson a game, comes back at outside right.

Everton: Ted Sagar, George Jackson, George Saunders, Maurice Lindley, Tommy Jones, Gordon Watson, Jack Davies, Stan Bentham (or Syd Simmons), Robert Bell, Alex Stevenson, Wally Boyes.
