Czech XI at Anfield


Friday, August 30 – 1940
The first big representative Association football match of the season will take place at the Liverpool ground, Anfield, on September 11, kick-off at 6.

A Czech XI, which will include several internationals, will oppose a side of stars recruited from the Western Command. Gate proceeds will be given to the Army Comforts Fund. The Czech can put out a first-class side, including several internationals.

The Western Command will include internationals from the four home countries. Willie Fagan and Stan Eastham, Tommy Lawton, Joe Mercer, Billy Cook, and Cliff Britton are likely to be in the Army side.
