Comrades of his football days attended the funeral in Burnley Cemetery on Tuesday of Mr. Dick Lindley, a member of Burnley Football Club’s FA Cup-winning team of 1914, whose death, which occurred at his home, the Hark to Bounty Inn, Slaidburn, was reported in last Saturday’s “Express.” Mr. Lindley was 57.
The interment was preceded by a service in St. John’s Church, Gannow, the Rev. W.T. Dixon officiating.
Mr. W.E. Bracewell, former director and chairman of the Burnley F.C., Mr. Albert Pickles, former director-manager and secretary of the Burnley F.C., Mr. Jerry Dawson and Mr. Alf Bassnett were among Mr. Lindley’s football associates present, and Mr. Dawson and Mr. Bassnett, together with Mr. Lamb and Mr. Smith acted as bearers.
Representing the Burnley Licensed Victuallers’ Association were Mr. J. Blake (president), Mr. Herbert Jackson, and Mr. Duerden.
The arrangements were carried out by Mr. Harold Greenwood, Coal Clough Lane.
