The death of John Borthwick

April 23, 1942
I regret to announce the death, which took place, yesterday in Walton Hospital, of John Borthwick, the former Everton half-back. John Borthwick joined Everton round about 1908 and played for some seasons, but was better known to the present generation as the genial host of the Winslow Hotel, Goodison Road, right opposite the Everton ground. He suffered a severe head wound in the last war. Mr. Borthwick leave a widow and several children.
