Abe Rosenthal, the former Liverpool schoolboys’ inside forward, has been appointed captain of Tranmere Rovers for season 1943-44. Arthur Owen, the diminutive left back, has been appointed vice-captain.
Rosenthal is at present in the army and is expecting his commission shortly. Abe went to Liverpool after leaving St. Margaret’s (Anfield) School and was on the ground staff for a time. Later Rosenthal went to Prescot – Liverpool’s nursery club – but was released, and he joined Tranmere Rovers, for whom he has been an outstanding personality. Abe is one of the few Jewish boys in football, and there is no more popular figure at Prenton Park.
“Tiger” Owen joined the Rovers some seasons ago from Hoylake and has been the epitome of consistency.
