Attacking problems for Liverpool

January 23, 1945
Manager Mr. George Kay, of Liverpool, is not in such a happy position. Defensively the Reds are okay with Alf Hobson, Jim Harley, Jeff Gulliver, Harry Kaye, Laurie Hughes, Jack Blood and Jack Pilling all available, but at the moment the only forwards on the team sheet are Jack Campbell, Phil Taylor and Bill Kinghorn.

Maybe this is the precise moment for young Les Shannon, leading County Combination goal-scorer, to make his Football League debut. In my opinion Shannon should get his long-delayed chance.
