In signing Charles Ashcroft from Liverpool, Ipswich Town have secured a goalkeeper with plenty of experience in First Division football. Ashcroft had been a professional with the Merseyside club since December, 1945, when he was signed from Eccleston Juniors. Like several other players who have made their mark in League football, Ashcroft, is a native of Chorley.
