December 27, 1958
The death has occurred in hospital in Liverpool of Mr. William Cockburn, a well-known Liverpool F.C. half-back of the ‘twenties, and a brother-in-law of the famous back, Donald Mackinay.

He was 58. Four years ago he suffered the amputation of a leg. Mr. Cockburn, a massive man with sandy hair, came from the North East, made his name with Stockport County and was signed by Liverpool in May, 1924. He became an Anfield stalwart.

Late in his career he played for Queens Park Rangers and Swansea Town.

His home was at Leinster Road, Old Swan.
