Peter Thompson, young Liverpool star who said he preferred glory to cash, has now lost £750 by a Football League decision. Preston, who transferred him, wanted to pay him benefit money even though, by refusing their terms, he was not eligible for it.
They asked the League for permission – and were turned down.
