Steve Heighway, Skelmersdale United’s star striker, signed for Liverpool to-day – minutes before he took the field for Skelmersdale in their vital Amateur Cup quarterfinal replay with Slough. A Liverpool club official went to White Moss Park to sign Heighway on amateur forms.
Heighway will continue to play for Skelmersdale this season, but is likely to turn professional with Liverpool next season. Heighway, a 21-years-old Manchester University student from Coventry, is one of Skem’s leading scorers this season and has become the target of several clubs.
Everton, Coventry, and Leeds have all been interested in signing the striker who was on Manchester City’s books at one time.
