One of Soccer’s tubbiest goalkeepers will have a new slim-line look when the season kicks-off in 18 day’s time. For Tommy Lawrence, the genial Liverpool goalkeeper, has lost more than a stone this summer – by accident.
Tommy – 13st. 12lb. at the beginning of last season – is now all set to challenge for the first team place he lost to Ray Clemence at the end of last season. But Tommy has no answer to the mystery of the missing inches.
“They just dropped off me during the summer,” said the player whose figure was always exaggerated by a loose-fitting floppy jersey.
“I’ve played a bit of golf and tennis, but I’ve not been on a special diet or anything,” he added. “But I feel great now – better, in fact, than I’ve felt before. I feel in fine trim and am ready to fight to get my place back.”
